Coming up for air

The no posting for a while seems to be becoming a bad habit. Too much work and other fun stuff to play with. I'm finally delving into using ARP in some Flash projects (though staying away from the forms) and playing with AS3 while following the AS3 Cookbook and the excellent Advanced AS3 with Design Patterns. I'm also reading The Art of Project Management which is very well written and a great read to boot. Its quite interesting even if you have nothing to do with the subject. Thanks to Chris for the recommendation.

At the same time somebody decided to open up the previously UDP-free network so Xbox Live is working which means free time is split into the stuff I just mentioned and GRAW2. I'm currently checking the downloads section in Crackdown every 10 minutes to see if I can get my hands on the Halo 3 beta which was supposed to be released today, but there seems to be issues.

Anyways, I came across this very cool RSS reader done in Flex that reads MXNA (Macromedia Adobe's XML News Aggregator). The dock interface to select categories, the faux-3D cube rotations, the "smoke" of course and the slight reflection make it ooze of OS X-like goodness.

And lastly some hilarious Ruby on Rails vs PHP and Java videos on YouTube:

  1. Ruby on Rails vs Java
  2. Ruby on Rails vs PHP
  3. Ruby on Rails vs PHP #2

So tomorrow is Norway's Independence day which means everybody will be eating hot dogs and ice cream while guzzling beers and trying not to spill anything on their suit. Normally dress is very casual over here, and that includes at work, but on the 17th its super-formal with traditional garb and three-piece suits worn by one and all. My first year here I showed up downtown in jeans and a hoodie and felt a little out of place. Anyways, my shirt is pressed and the ol' suit is ready. Now I just need to figure out how to tie this tie.

Oh never mind. Thank god for YouTube!
