London User Group TV - Papervision and Flex2 Components
Posted on Friday, January 26, 2007 @ 00:14 CET
While reading through my Flash/Flex feeds earlier I saw that Tink had posted a link to a live cast of the London Flash user group meetup earlier tonight.
The first presentation about Papervision3D was very cool, and the engine seems amazing. 3D in Flash has always been a holy grail of sorts, a quick Google search turns up over 89 million results. If you haven't heard of Papervision3D you need to get up from under that rock and get over to OSFlash and check out the demos. There's some impressive stuff there.
The second presentation was about creating and rolling out your own Flex2 components, how to do it, the pros and cons of using AS3-only vs MXML, and making your own SWC files that work in design view. I haven't actually made any components for anybody else to use yet but he had some good tips.
The video feed was pretty good, a few audio dropouts here and there but ok all things considering. I mean, I'm sitting here in Oslo watching a live presentation across the channel - that's pretty damn cool. In comparison, a giant like Apple doesn't even stream their keynotes :)
Here's to hoping we get some interesting Flash/Flex presentations in our own user group.

Hey Paulo, I'm glad it was useful. The venue doesn't have the best wifi but the streaming doesn't seem to bad. I'm also working on getting a mic for presenters to improve the sound.
